Darlings and Divas has had the honor of hosting over 1,000 celebrations both in our store, and on location. Our divalicious fans have asked us for our best advice on how to throw an amazing bash. This is part one of a multi-part series on partying at home. First up, spa parties!
Every little girl wants to be pampered. It's surprisingly simple to create a spa environment in your home. Head to your local Target, Walmart, or Dollar Store and stock up on inexpensive nail polishes. Think bright pink, neons, purple, blue, and glitter! Setup a self-service manicure station with scented lotion, nail-polish remover and cotton balls. Make sure to protect your surface with a colorful towel or table cloth (nail polish remover will strip the finish off a wood table). Depending upon the age of girls, print out some fun nail-art tutorials and put out nail art polishes (easily found at the Dollar Store). Make sure to stock-up on quick-dry polish spray. Girls are notoriously impatient waiting for fingers & toes to dry.
A pedicure station is a little more hands-on requiring adult supervision to manage the water. Use plastic beverage tubs as your pedicure basin which can easily be found at any home store. Allow friends to take turns giving each other pedicures, or recruit some adults to perform the pedicures on the girls. Stock your pedicure "bar" with sugar scrub and bath fizzes. If your girls are crafty, allow them to make their own sugar scrub [check out this basic recipe from Wellness Mama: Use 2 parts sugar (regular white or brown sugar work great) to 1 part oil (almond, olive and coconut are great), add 1/2 tsp Vitamin E oil (or the gel from a few capsules), add other optional ingredients, and mix well.] No pedicure station is compete without fashion magazines!
When girls think spa party, the first thing they think of is cucumber slices on their eyes. It's easy and inexpensive to whip up a few face masks with ingredients you'll find in your kitchen. For a chocolate milk facial, grind 1/2 cup of oatmeal in a blender or food processor until a flour consistency is achieved. Mix in 2 tablespoons of cocoa (unsweetened baking cocoa, not hot chocolate mix). Ten to twenty minutes prior to use, mix in milk or water until it achieves the consistency of a fudge sauce. Note, this facial will thicken as it stands, thin the mixture out with more liquid when necessary. Our Greek Goddess facial is GREAT for skin. Mix one container of plain, Greek yogurt with one tablespoon of fine ground oatmeal and a teaspoon of honey. Create your own facial bar with a bowl of thin sliced cucumbers and lots of wash cloths for girls to remove their facials.
For party decor, place colorful towels on your pedicure surfaces. Create a soothing station of fun spa style foods like: fresh fruit (nothing says spa like a bowl of apples or oranges), cookies, mini-muffins, an assortment of teas, and sparkling pink lemonade. Your local Dollar Store is a GREAT resource for party goods like disposable champagne flutes. Create a candy buffet display featuring your daughter's favorite candy. Party City sells affordable candy in different colors. Also hit the Dollar Store for blow pops, tootsie rolls, and more.
Want your party to be over the top? How about letting girls make their own lip gloss? We have a MYO station in our divalicious boutique, but you can easily DIY with this awesome chocolate lip gloss recipe.
Don't forget to create a playlist of awesome music for your spa party. Ask your daughter who her favorite artists are (you can never go wrong with One Direction). For some great ideas, check out our Top Ten Kids Dance Party Songs for 2013.
We hope your spa party is divalicious. Don't forget, if you need help, we'd be MORE than happy to ship a spa party in a box to your home! Or, we'll come to the rescue and create a fantastic party at your location of choice!
